I recently had the pleasure of visiting Flâneur Wines, located at 168 S Pine Street, during my trip to Carlton, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. I noticed it as I entered town and the name caught my attention. The place embraces the flâneur ethos as much as I do and am glad I made the discovery. Another W in for flâneur-ism!
Upon entering the winery, I was immediately struck by the open and spacious layout, complete with high ceilings that lent an air of elegance to the place. Circular wooden chandeliers hung from above, casting a warm and inviting glow over the space. The attention to detail in the décor was evident, but what truly caught my eye was the wine tasting countertop. It was crafted from marble that had a fascinating history, having once resided in Philadelphia where the iconic Liberty Bell is displayed. This connection to such a historic symbol added a unique and memorable touch to the ambiance.
Of course, the primary reason for my visit was to sample the wines, and Flâneur Wines did not disappoint. I opted for a flight of wines that included both white and red varieties.
I am not a big fan of white wine. As white wines go, these were enjoyable, offering a range of flavors and characteristics that pleased my palate. Of note is the N.V. Willamette Valley Brut, which is perfect for a mellow toasting wine for special occasions.
However, it was the red wines that truly stood out. Each sip revealed the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into producing their wines. The reds were not just good; they were exceptional, leaving a lasting impression. These are the types of reds that are smooth and simple enough that they can be enjoyed on their own, without food.
One aspect I appreciated about the tasting experience at Flâneur Wines was their pricing policy. The flight of wines was reasonably priced at $30, a fee that is waived if you decide to purchase a bottle. This not only encourages exploration but also rewards those who choose to bring home a taste of their favorites. In my case, I couldn't resist the temptation and ended up leaving with two bottles to savor later.
My selections were the 2019 Le Belle Promenade Pinot Noir, which as mentioned, is a smooth easy wine and the the 2016 Cuvée Constantin, which had an excellent notes of oak flavor.
Flâneur Wines offered more than just a wine tasting; it provided an ambiance rich in history and character, coupled with a superb selection of wines that left me thoroughly impressed. I would highly recommend a visit to this winery for anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable wine-tasting experience in Carlton. Cheers to Flâneur Wines for making my trip truly special!
