Today, November 5, in addition to being the anniversary of the Gunpowder Treason, Mrs. Flaneur and I went to lunch at Two Dogs Taphouse in McMinnville.
Two Dogs is located at 401 NW Evans Street in McMinnville. It is right across from the County Clerk's office and a block over Serendipity Ice Cream on 3rd Street downtown.
There is no parking lot, but parking on a Sunday afternoon is no problem as there was a space right in front of the door. (This is not my first visit to Two Dogs and I have never found parking to be a problem).
On entry, the venue opens into a large space with lots of seating throughout. There is a large bar with a large number of beers on tap (my guess is over 20 different beers to choose from). You order at the counter, get your beer, and chose your table. The food is later delivered to the table. It's an efficient system and I like it.
There are a number of TVs playing various sports games up. No matter what table you sit at, you will have a view of a game. There is also a smaller room off to one side, which features big leather couches, for an extra cushy spot to watch the game or games on the screen in that room.
They rotate through different beers on tap, so the selection is not necessarily fixed. Normally, I try to get some kind of non-IPA amber ale, but today I got the red ale. I have never had a bad beer here. For the burger, I got the Smoky Bacon BBQ burger, which comes with a big helping of uncoated/battered fries.
The burger is really good and one of my favorite burgers even before I started this quest. It has a fantastic smoky BBQ sauce that is a straight down the line BBQ sauce not veering into being too sweet or having too much of a vinegar flavor. This burger is loaded with beef. It features two thick patties, which are soft and juicy. There are two strips of bacon, again smoky, cheddar cheese, and some onion rings, which each give this burger a boost in savory flavor. It's a great burger and when I started this quest, I thought this one would be the one to beat. As I have mentioned before, Mrs. Flaneur is not a big burger fanatic, but she had some of this one and agrees it is really good.
The fries are really great. They are freshly made, cooked to consist of a mixture of crispy and soft fries. The portion is generous and Mrs. Flaneur stole a lot of them from my plate, but there were still enough for me.
The food earns the following grades:
Burger: A-
Fries: A+
Beer: A
Together the burger and the brew came to $24.50, which is right around the mid-point for this area.
