Today, October 1, 2023, I visited Domaine Willamette. A perfect clear fall day, is an ideal time to visit this location, which is nestled amidst the picturesque vineyards of the Dundee Hills. The experience at this oasis is a delightful fusion of flavors and ambiance. With a stunning view of Mount Hood and the lush vineyards, Domaine Willamette offers a unique culinary journey that marries American Wagyu beef with the elegance of Pinot Noir.
The grounds at Domaine Willamette are a testament to thoughtful landscaping. The scenic beauty of the vineyards, coupled with the breathtaking view of Mount Hood, sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant/tasting room provides a cozy and inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements the natural surroundings.
The purpose of my journey is always the burger. This one is decadent and crafted with care, it boasts a 1/3 lb American Wagyu beef patty, poblano dip, pepper bacon, pickled onions, arugula, and shallot aioli, all nestled between a sea salt potato bun. The burger is well-balanced and offers a mild yet flavorful profile. The combination of ingredients brings a harmonious blend of textures and tastes that are satisfying but not overwhelming. The use of American Wagyu beef adds a level of richness that elevates this burger to an outstanding delight. At $19, it is at very reasonable price point.
The truffle oil-tossed fries accompanying the burger are a decadent treat. The earthy aroma of truffle oil permeates every bite, making it a luxurious side dish that complements the burger perfectly.
What truly sets Domaine Willamette apart is the carefully curated wine pairing. The suggested wine, Burneau Estate Pinot Noir ($20), is a masterstroke. Its complex flavors with medium tannins and a strong peppery note provide a delightful contrast to the mild burger. The wine enhances the dining experience by elevating the burger's flavors, making every bite an exquisite symphony of tastes. My friendly and knowledgable server let me know that I had a view of the vines which produced the wine I was enjoying.
The attentive and knowledgeable staff at Domaine Willamette contribute significantly to the overall experience. They are well-versed in both the food and wine offerings, making recommendations that enhance the dining experience.
Overall, I would give the following grades:
Burger: B+
Fries: A
Wine: A
In conclusion, I would say that the overall experience of the Domaine Willamette is what makes it. It provides a memorable journey for the senses. The burger, while mild, is a testament to culinary craftsmanship, and the genius lies in the suggested wine pairing. The Burneau Estate Pinot Noir enhances the burger's flavors, creating a harmonious dance of taste on the palate. Add to this the stunning surroundings, and you have a dining experience that's not to be missed for anyone visiting or living in or near the Yamhill County's wine country.
